Anglican Missions: Hope for the Holy Land

Make a Difference in the holy land

Anglican Missions is calling on churches and individuals across Aotearoa to support the Hope for the Holy Land Appeal, providing crucial aid to communities in Israel and Palestine through the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem and the Middle East.

Your support can make a tangible difference for those in desperate need, especially during a time of ongoing conflict and crisis.

How Your Support Helps

Donations to the Hope for the Holy Land have already enabled life-changing work, including:

  • Healthcare Services: Institutions like Al Ahli Anglican Hospital in Gaza are delivering emergency care and rehabilitation during a severe humanitarian crisis.

  • Education and Psychosocial Support: Trauma care for children and holistic education, such as that offered by the Episcopal School in Ramallah, are building resilience and hope for the next generation.

  • Humanitarian Relief: Emergency aid reaches displaced communities, offering critical support in their time of need.

These ministries embody the hands and feet of Christ, bringing healing, hope, and justice to some of the world’s most vulnerable communities.

Voices from the Holy Land

The need for action is urgent. In a heartfelt letter, Archbishop Hosam Naoum highlighted the existential challenges faced by indigenous Christians in the Holy Land, whose presence dates back to the time of Christ:

“We fear for the long-term survival of the indigenous Christian presence in the Holy Land. This existential challenge demands our focused attention and collective response.”

Stories like that of young Palestinian Anglican Layan Nasir, who was recently released after eight months of administrative detention without charge, illustrate the harsh realities faced by thousands. Similarly, the Nassar family’s fight to protect their land and the Church of the Nations on their property is emblematic of the systemic struggles endured by many.

Archbishop Naoum underscores the broader impact:

“Reducing Palestinians to a position of despondent surrender, where they must either live under the yoke of occupation or emigrate, is deeply wrong and unjust. It will bring neither peace nor security.”

How Your Church Can Help

The Anglican Communion, led by Archbishop Hosam Naoum, invites churches and families worldwide to take action:

  1. Pray: Commit to regular prayer for justice, peace, and resilience for those affected by the ongoing conflict.

  2. Advocate: Engage your political representatives to call for a just peace that upholds human dignity and international law in Israel and Palestine.

  3. Donate: Financial contributions to the Hope for the Holy Land Appeal are vital to sustain healthcare, education, and humanitarian aid programs.
